Furuli's New Books--Attempt to Refute COJonsson
by ros ini just heard that the norwegian watchtower apologist, rolf furuli, who esteems himself a biblical scholar of semetic languages, has completed the first of two volumes he plans to publish on the societys chronology, assyrian, babylonian, egyptian and persian chronology compared with the chronology of the bible.. title of this first volume is: persian chronology and the length of the babylonian exile of the jews.. i hear that although carl olof jonsson is not mentioned by name, or reference made to his book "gentile times reconsidered," it is nevertheless apparent that these volumes are an attempt to refute jonssons excellent study which has exposed the watchtowers 1914 date as total folly.. .
the book can be ordered now from furulis new personal website:.

the Church has authority in such matters as its teachings are based upon three elements: Bible, Tradition and Magisterium or Governing Body with its Faithful and Discreet Slave
Scholar's posts amuse and annoy me at the same time. This last quote though has convinced me that he is simply taking the mickey.

Witness sayings
by Teela inas i was growing up in the troof.
there were sayings used over and over again to control my behaviour.
the biblical on bad associations spoil useful habits and another on just because everyone else does it doesnt mean you have to do it to, would you jump off a cliff just because other people do what were the sayings that bugged you?

Hi Anglise
Yes - that was the point made. I'm going to search the internet tomorrow and try and find some further info on later additions to the gospels.

I watched this program last night. Actually the part that stands out the most from this program was footage of some crackpots in the Philipines who take part in a ceremony every year where they have to carry a cross through the crowds, are then nailed to it and left crucified for an hour. When it showed the nails being hammered into their hands I nearly choked on my glass of Chardonnay!!
The program said it took many days for people to die of crucifiction and that death was due to suffocation. The legs could be broken to help speed up death. Many also survived the process.
They brought out many so-called experts who talked about the inconsistencies of the gospels and one compared this to an event being covered by four different reporters, each of whom would concentrate on different aspects of the same event.
The most interesting comment was one guy who questioned why the resurrected Christ didn't appear to more people. He said one of the gospels originally had no information about him appearing to anyone and this information was added later. Wish I could remember which gospel. Maybe someone else can help?

What Made You Leave The "Truth"? Was It False Prophecy, People, Blood, etc.
by minimus injw's like to believe that people who leave the organization do it for selfish reasons or due to impatience and not "waiting on jehovah".
there's a variety of reasons for persons making the decision and saying, "that's it!
i'm not doing this anymore".

One good reason for me was that I realised that the people in the 'troof' were no better than so-called worldly people. My circle of friends now are much better and much more honest people. I also have some ex-JWs as friends.
I also got sick of all the failed prophecies. I told my mother when I left that the generation doctrine would have to change. Sure enough, four years later it did. Now that's what I call prophecy!

mizpah,
It only really took a couple of minutes to read through this thread. I have a lot of time spare at work so I brouse this board a lot, especially the bible and research threads. I don't usually rant like I did. Sorry! I actually didn't include your comments in the b.s. category!
I still stand by my words that you can waste a lot of time trying to fit vague prophecies into modern events. If the bible could be so specific about say the Greek Empire in prophecy why could it not be as specific about modern times?

Puttytat,
Great post - I've been thinking the same myself for weeks now. I left the JWs to get away from the fear and superstitions taught from the bible and to avoid the kind of 'zealot' this produced. And I see many posters on here at the moment who are like that, praying on some who may be vulnerable. I would hate just one person to be taken in by this religious nonsense.
But as Run dont walk says:
We need to be reminded sometimes why we left and why we will NEVER go back
It's an excellent point that I'd forgotten about. The best reason never to go back are the rantings of some posters and the un-scholarly posts of others. So let them keep posting!!!

Biblical references ?
by KGB ini have noticed that a lot of you here quote references of history from scripture, so my question is this.
if you say that the bible is not the true word of god then how can it even be a true word of history.

Do any of you think in relation to prophecies, that mankind has something to do with these prophecies coming true?
I've yet to see any prophecy come true!

what a load of rubbish
I could not agree more. I've never seen so much speculative bullshit in a single thread since my time on this board. This board seems to be becoming a breading ground for religious nutters to come on and rant about their own particular doctrines.
Jesus is God because this scripture says blah blah. No he's Michael because this scripture says blah blah. No he's 'a god' because blah blah blah. No he's a teletubby because blah blah blah blah.....
I can't believe people put so much time and faith in words that can be twisted to mean so many things.
Oh well, rant over!
